2003 BPC practice research medal winner announcedDr Karen Hassell, senior research fellow in the school of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Manchester, has been awarded the 2003 British Pharmaceutical Conference practice research medal for her research into the pharmacy workforce. The award recognises individuals of up to 45 years of age who have made a significant contribution to the field of pharmacy practice research and have the potential to become leaders in their field. Dr Hassell will present her research on 15 September at this year's conference, which takes place in Harrogate from 15 to 17 September. Her lecture will be entitled: "The new landscape of pharmacy employment: understanding the workforce is key to the future of pharmacy". As part of the award Dr Hassell will also receive a cheque for £1,000. The award is sponsored by Chemist & Druggist magazine. The chair of the adjudicating panel for the award, Professor James C. McElnay, said that he was delighted that Dr Hassell was to receive the award: "Karen's research spans a number of related areas including access to and utilisation of community pharmacies and service evaluation. However, her main research field, and one she has made her own, is the pharmacy workforce." Professor McElnay added that this year's applications were highly competitive, but Dr Hassell's excellent standard of research income and output led to her selection. |
