Boots to sell a number of stores

Boots The Chemists has announced that it is to sell a number of stores.

The company said this week that it has identified some locations where customer demand has changed, either through local competition or demographics. In these places it will offer stores for sale as going concerns. However, a spokeswoman was unable to give further details about the number of stores involved.

Meanwhile, Boots is to invest in refurbishing its existing stores. This includes a new format for its dispensaries. A total of £150m will be invested in the refurbishment programme which will include the roll-out of a new pharmacy computer system. The new-style dispensary is still in trial and is under wraps but a spokeswoman described it as a "galley style" design.

"By making these decisions, Boots will be able to offer customers a pharmacy service in locations they want to use, and allow the company to reinvest in areas of future health care growth," she added.
