Academy launched for pharmacy practiceA new academy of pharmacy practice has been formed by the School of Pharmacy at Aston University, together with the West Midlands NHS Workforce Development Confederation and the West Midlands Chief Pharmacists Group. Based within the pharmacy practice group at Aston University, the academy has received over £600,000 funding from the West Midlands Regional Development Agency and the Birmingham and Black Country Workforce Development Confederation. Dr John Marriott, senior lecturer in pharmacy practice and head of practice teaching at Aston University, told The Journal that the academy will develop clinical and professional teaching specifically for secondary care and a concerted research agenda throughout the West Midlands secondary pharmaceutical care environment. Seven positions for hospital-based teacher practitioners have been created. "The academy formalises the projects and recognises the links underpinning the initiatives that have gone on in the past," Dr Marriott said. One of the first projects the academy is focusing on is the construction of a state-of-the-art clean room in the main building at Aston to support technical education. |
