Obese women at risk of dementia

Women who are overweight could be at increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Researchers followed 392 adults and observed a higher degree of excess weight in women who developed the disease at 70, 75 and 79 years compared with women who did not. For every 1.0 increase in body mass index at 70 years, risk increased by 36 per cent (Archives of Internal Medicine 2003;163:1524).
