The Journal"Onlooker" is appropriateFrom Mrs J. Landau, MRPharmS Tut tut! We obviously cannot please everyone but dare I confess that "Onlooker" is often the page to which I turn first? As with any publication, we do not always agree with the sentiments expressed but it does distinguish The Pharmaceutical Journal from the many other pharmacy journals I read. It gives us a break from the world of therapeutics and broadens our view of life, often filling in the gaps, eg, pharmacognosy, history and other intellectual pursuits, topics missing from today's pharmacy curricula. Only yesterday I gave "Price of fatigue" (PJ, 30 November 2002, p792) to students and since someone was drinking Coca Cola at lunch time I circulated "Ecology and big business" (PJ, 26 October 2002, p624) taken from my "Onlooker" collection. Therapeutics is not all there is to a pharmacist's education, and "Onlooker" complements it. May I point out that the Journal of the American Medical Association offers "art", "poetry" and "JAMA 100 years ago" sections in every medical journal printing, assigning editors for each of these sections. In addition the front cover is a painting discussed in the issue. So, please, P. A. Hardy (PJ, 28 June, p888), lighten up! Janet Landau |
