Pharmacists asked to take part in BP testing weekPharmacists across the United Kingdom are being asked to take part in national blood pressure testing week in September. The event is organised by the Blood Pressure Association and aims to raise people's awareness of the importance of knowing their blood pressure. During the awareness week, "pressure stations" are set up in different settings such as pharmacies, hospitals, surgeries and health clubs to allow people to have a free blood pressure check. Last year, almost 100,000 people were tested and given information about blood pressure. George Kerr, a pharmacist in Helensburgh, who is taking part in the event for the second time, says: "We tested 60 of our customers and the feedback we received was extremely positive. Some of the people tested were found to have a high reading and, after being referred to their general practitioner for investigation, are now on treatment." Pharmacists can register for this year's event, scheduled for 15–21 September, here. Participants will be sent a resource pack containing leaflets, posters and testing guidelines. |
