Acarbose reduces CV risk

Treating impaired glucose tolerance with acarbose (Glucobay) can reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, suggest Canadian researchers.

They found that acarbose treatment was associated with decreased postprandial hyperglycaemia, a 49 per cent relative risk reduction in the development of cardiovascular events and a 2.5 per cent absolute risk reduction (JAMA 2003;290:486).
