Letters to the Editor

The Society

Membership approval

From Mr A. R. Cox, MRPharmS

I would like to thank E. P. Crabtree for pointing out that the Pharmaceutical Society has not been "Royal" for 150 years, but only for 15 years (PJ, 26 July, p120). However, he is incorrect in his view that this was imposed without any membership approval. In fact, a special general meeting was held in 1988 to approve the change of the Society's title to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. This was passed by 28 votes to three (PJ, 13 August 1988, p218).

I hope that the Council will allow the membership to have the same opportunity to endorse any new, or amended, Charter of the Society.

Anthony Cox
Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands
