CoMedis aims for 4,000 online users
CoMedis, an online ordering service for non-prescription medicines, is aiming to have around 4,000 independent community pharmacies using its service by early 2004.
Speaking to The Journal last week, CoMedis director Mike Owen said that
the number of registered pharmacy users has risen from 1,200 at the time
of launch in March to 1,700 at present. Further marketing through the
National Pharmaceutical Association and tie-ups with wholesalers and
buying groups in the autumn is planned with the aim of doubling this
number. Of those registered, around half are using the system regularly
to gain information about non-prescription medicines or to place orders,
usually once or twice a fortnight. Around 50 different pharmacies use
the system each day and average order values are around £150 to £200.
CoMedis has been formed by the Proprietary Association of Great Britain
together with seven consumer health care suppliers; Crookes, Johnson & Johnson
MSD, Novartis, Pfizer, Roche, Schering-Plough and SSL. These represent
about 45 per cent of the total non-prescription medicines market by volume. |
