Cost survey for Scottish pharmacy
A survey of the cost of providing community pharmacy services is to be held in Scotland this month. The results will be used as part of the
Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council’s negotiations on the
new contract for community pharmacists.
The survey has two parts: an inquiry into the discounts earned on proprietary
drugs and the costs of providing the pharmaceutical service, including
staff, property and overhead costs. An inquiry into the prices of generic
drugs will follow.
The Scottish Executive is providingfunding for pharmacies that participate
in the survey. They will be paid £300 for completing the forms
and an additional £25 will be paid to a small number of pharmacies
that will be asked to submit copies of invoices.
“If selected, please take care to ensure you accurately report
all costs in your return; this is your opportunity to demonstrate the
inadequacies
inherent in the current system of remuneration,” the SPGC told
pharmacists in a newsletter this week. |
