The Society

An opportunity to survey members' views

From Mr A. Matalia, MRPharmS

It seems that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society will be sending out a pharmacy workforce census form to all pharmacists (PJ, 30 August, p278). This is an ideal opportunity for the Society to undertake a survey on the views of the membership and prove that its views reflect those of its members.

It would be a good idea to include questions such as:

1. Do you support contract limitation?

2. Do you believe the Society should have increased membership fees to fund continuing professional development or should pharmacists have the option to opt out and use free CPD material from elsewhere?

3. Would you like the Society to be split into two — one part for registration, with a nominal fee of £20 a year, and another part that is optional for the remainder of services?

It seems that the Society makes claims that it represents pharmacists, for example in its views on contract limitation and the Office of Fair Trading report. This is an opportunity for the Society to silence its critics and be sure it really represent its members’ views.

A. Matalia
