Council to consider independent report on response to Charter consultation
An independently prepared report on the feedback from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's consultation on a new Royal Charter is to be considered by the Council at its October meeting.
The report has been written by Dr Marcus Longley, of the Welsh Institute
for Health and Social Care, after reading nearly 400 responses from individuals
and organisations plus reports of nearly 50 national, regional and local
meetings.
Commenting on the report, the Society’s Vice-President, Alison
Ewing, said: “The report published this week reflects the spectrum
of feedback received during the consultation on the draft revised Charter.
We felt it was important to publish it as soon after the end of the consultation
as possible. The report has been prepared independently and is set down
without commentary.
“The feedback has not yet been considered by the Council, who will
need to decide what changes should be made to the draft in response to
the
views made known. We will consider the points made very carefully. The
Council will need to assess how the draft Charter can be revised and
improved, weighing the strength of the arguments and how some of the
concerns raised could be best addressed. Any changes and decisions will,
of course, be communicated and explained. There will be an opportunity
at next week's British Pharmaceutical Conference for members to discuss
the feedback with members of the Council and the modernisation steering
group.
“May I, on behalf of the Council, express my thanks to all those
who took the time to join in the consultation. Your input is greatly
appreciated
and valued and will help us arrive at our common aim: a Royal Charter
that will provide a strong base for the profession’s development
well into the future.”
