Policeman appointed director of CRHP

A senior police officer has been appointed director of the Council for the Regulation of Healthcare Professionals. Deputy Chief Constable Sandy Forrest, currently Assistant Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland, will take up his new post later this year.

He said: “My career has involved reassuring the public that services are provided safely by professionals who are properly trained and kept up to date. CRHP should satisfy the public that while regulation of the health professions is working well there is now a level of independent assurance above that. This will help to safeguard the interests of the public as well as providing external scrutiny of how health professionals themselves are treated.”

Jane Wesson, CRHP chairman, said that Mr Forrest’s outside perspective will be invaluable to CRHP in its work to strengthen regulation.
