The winner of the 2002 Schering award given for outstanding contribution to pharmacy practice is George Downie, chief pharmacist of Grampian Primary Care Trust. Mr Downie was presented with the award at a ceremony
at the headquarters of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in Scotland
on 24 September.
The Schering award is made annually by the College of Pharmacy Practice.
The 2002 award was made to Mr Downie for sustained work for 30 years
on innovation and development of pharmacy practice in primary and secondary
care.
Paul Woodward, managing director of Schering Health Care Ltd, said that
Mr Downie had made an enormous contribution to pharmacy practice. His
work in both hospital practice and primary care had resulted in significant
advances in patient care. “The Schering award was set up to recognise
outstanding contribution to pharmacy practice and George is a worthy
winner of the award,” he added.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Trevor Jones, chief executive of NHS
Scotland, said: “The award tonight to George is not only in recognition
of his personal triumph but I believe it is a testimony to pharmacy in
Scotland and the NHS.” |
