Melt-in-the-mouth antidepressant

An orally soluble form of the antidepressant mirtazapine has been launched by Organon.

Zispin Soltabs are bioequivalent to conventional Zispin tablets and melt on the tongue without the need for water. Stephen Bazire, pharmacy services director, Norfolk Mental Health Care NHS Trust, told The Journal that depressed and elderly patients often have problems swallowing medicines, and the range of liquid formulations is limited. He said: “The option of a discreet, easy-to-use, novel preparation will be a distinct advantage.”
