Cannabis reduces sleep disturbance

The cannabis extract mouth spray, Sativex, reduces both neuropathic pain and sleep disturbance in patients with multiple sclerosis compared with placebo, according to recent data.

A five-week trial in 66 patients, showed participants on active treatment were almost four times more likely to report an improvement than those on placebo. Patients involved in the trial had been diagnosed with MS for an average of 11.5 years and remained on existing medication. Sativex is currently being reviewed for licence in the United Kingdom by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
