Patients to get a voice at BMA council

The British Medical Association is to establish a 12-member patient liaison group, the chairman of which will have an observer seat on the BMA council.

The patient group will be involved in all aspects of BMA policy development, not just patient-focused areas such as community care and medical ethics, where lay members already sit on relevant committees, according to the chairman of the BMA, Mr James Johnson.

Advertisements are to be placed in national newspapers to recruit the panel, which will meet up to four times a year.
