Additional brief for sole pharmacist MP

Sandra Gidley, the pharmacist Liberal Democrat MP for Romsey, Hampshire, has been given additional responsibilities in a reshuffle of the party's shadow cabinet.

She is now the Liberal Democrat spokeswoman for older people, as well as shadow minister for women. Mrs Gidley has been given the older people’s brief because the previous spokesman, Paul Burstow, has been made Liberal Democrat shadow secretary of state for health.

Mr Burstow, MP for Sutton and Cheam, has taken on the health brief because Dr Evan Harris (Oxford West and Abingdon) has left the shadow cabinet after his partner was recently found to have cancer.
