Roll-out for minor ailments scheme

The direct supply of medicines scheme has been rolled out to include 176 community pharmacies in Scotland. The scheme allows pharmacists to supply medicines for minor ailments on the National Health Service.

The direct supply project now includes 87 pharmacies in Dundee and Tayside and 89 pharmacies in Ayrshire and Arran. Alison Strath, of the pharmacy strategy implementation team at the Scottish Executive, told The Journal that the fact that two health boards are now included means that more local advertising can be carried out to increase public awareness of the scheme.

The extension of the direct supply scheme to include pharmacies in Dundee will test its feasibility in a city centre environment for the first time, Ms Strath said.
