Drug-related deaths increasing

Deaths related to use of illicit drugs in England and Wales are increasing, according to the latest surveillance data published by the European Centre for Addiction Studies at St George's Hospital, London. The data show there were 1,583 drug-related deaths in 2002 compared with 1,498 in 2001. Diamorphine or morphine were implicated in the majority of cases.
