Renal failure with zoledronic acid

Researchers from the Food and Drug Administration in the United States report 72 cases of renal failure associated with use of zoledronic acid (Zometa) in last week's New England Journal of Medicine. They suggest health professionals should monitor renal function, provide adequate hydration and discontinue treatment if renal function deteriorates (2003;349:1676).
