Welsh prescription charges

Jane Hutt, health and social services minister in Wales, recently outlined proposals for the phasing out of prescription charges. She said the first phase will be a £1 reduction in prescription charges from 1 October 2004, bringing prescription charges down to £5. The price of an annual certificate in Wales will be reduced to £71.83. Ms Hutt said that free prescriptions would be available in 2007, fulfilling a pledge made during this year’s National Assembly elections.
