Boots starts trials of automation in stores

Boots The Chemists has introduced automation to its branches at Newcastle and Oldham for trial periods.

The trials started in October. The store at Eldon Square, Newcastle, is using a Rowa Speedcase system, and the branch at Town Square shopping centre, Oldham, is using a Westfalia system. Standard operating procedures for pharmacists and support staff using the systems have been developed.

Gary Primrose, pharmacy reinvigoration manager for Boots, told The Journal that, even if the trials are successful, automation “won’t be in every store, or even in the majority of stores”.
