The branches

Younger members lack interest

From Mr K. W. Youings, FRPharmS

Your columnist “Onlooker” has put his finger firmly on the problem besetting our profession (PJ, 18 October, p560). In its long history, the Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has upheld the dignity and integrity of the profession despite a lack of enthusiasm by too many of its members. There has never been a time when there was a greater need for the younger members of our profession to understand how external influences are steering the profession in the wrong direction and that it is high time we again took command of our own ship as former members of our profession did. I am amazed at the lack of interest in branch activities by younger members. May I commend Onlooker’s words to those much younger than me and ask them to ponder deeply what they can do to put a stop to the steady erosion of the authority of our Council to govern our profession.

K. W. Youings
Castle Cary, Somerset
