PSNC hope for better funding in the future
Hope exists that there will be better funding for National Health Service pharmacy services once a new contract is agreed, says the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee.
Following the committee’s November meeting, at which it considered
and rejected as inadequate a 3.1 per cent offer for the current financial
year (PJ, 15 November, p665), PSNC chief executive Sue Sharpe said: “That
offer is under the old contract. There will be very substantial changes
to the funding arrangements under the new contract. The present system
is profoundly unsatisfactory.” Mrs Sharpe made it clear that she
was optimistic that any new arrangements would attract better funding
for community pharmacies.
She said that the committee was developing models and arguments to achieve
fair funding, but that it is not in a position to make any information
on this public.
