Hospitals to benefit from medicines management collaborative scheme
Medicines management collaboratives are to be established in hospitals in England as the National Prescribing Centre seeks to extend the programme already running in primary care.
Project teams from up to 10 hospital trusts will be invited to join an
18-month programme that will help identify existing good practice and
look at ways in which this might be adapted for more widespread implementation.
The focus will be on developing local strategies for medicines management
in hospitals, team working and raising the profile of pharmacy as a core
clinical service.
The programme is being supported by the Department of Health as part
of its response to the findings from the review of performance management
for medicines management in hospitals.
In addition, the chosen project teams will be looking at the implementation
of key recommendations from recent policy documents. These include the
Cabinet Office report “Making a difference: reducing burdens in
hospitals” and the Audit Commission document “A spoonful
of sugar”.
