Olanzapine for prevention of mania

Olanzapine, the atypical antipsychotic, (Zyprexa), is now licensed for the prevention of bipolar disorder recurrence in patients whose manic episode has responded to treatment with olanzapine (see p707). It is the first preventive treatment to be licensed since the approval of lithium over 50 years ago.
