Newsletter highlights supplementary prescribing opportunities in Wales
Supplementary prescribing by pharmacists in Wales is among the topics covered in a four-page autumn newsletter published by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Welsh Executive. A front-page article on prescribing
includes information about supplementary prescribing training courses
starting in spring 2004, for which application forms will be available
in December.
The newsletter’s second page describes recent Welsh Executive activities,
including its role in Ask About Medicines Week and its recent briefing
day for pharmacist members of local health boards. Also included is a
brief item about the working groups set up by the Welsh Assembly Government
to address specific Welsh issues that support service development. A
further item discusses the development of a national service framework
for children in Wales.
The final page carries an article about pharmacy practice research, which
points out that, in addition to the Society’s own practice research
awards, pharmacists in Wales can apply for research funding through the
Assembly’s pharmacy practice development scheme.
The newsletter is being distributed to all pharmacists in Wales as an
insert in this issue of The Journal. It is the second in a planned series
of newsletters providing up-to-date information about pharmacy to all
sectors of the profession in Wales. The first was published in April
(PJ, 12 April, p526).
Cath O’Brien, Secretary of the Society’s Welsh Executive,
said: “The newsletter is a good way of sharing information with
colleagues in all sectors of the profession in Wales. We are keen to
develop the newsletter in 2004 and welcome ideas from readers for content.”
