Derby awards its first DPharm degree
Mojgan Sani has been awarded a doctor of practice in pharmacy (DPharm) degree by the University of Derby, the first time such a degree has been awarded in the United Kingdom.
Dr Sani is consultant pharmacist in
cardiovascular medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals,
London. She completed her part-time course in under three years and was
examined on her thesis on “Lipid lowering in coronary heart disease
and the potential role of the pharmacist in therapy, optimisation and
management” by external assessor Professor Henry Chrystyn of the
University of Bradford.
The DPharm programme is designed for pharmacists who already hold postgraduate
qualifications and is intended for practitioners who may be working at
consultant level in the future. Three other students at Derby are close
to achieving their degrees and similar courses have been introduced at
Bradford, Portsmouth University and King’s College London. |
