Audit Commission: Diabetes services in Wales (more)

Co-ordinate diabetes services

Pharmacy diabetes services in Wales should be better quality controlled, according to the Audit Commission's recent review into diabetes services in Wales. The report highlights inconsistencies in the prevention, detection and treatment of the disease across Wales. Regarding free diabetes checks the report notes: “While there is an undoubted opportunity to make better use of the professional skills and knowledge of pharmacists, this should be done as part of a co-ordinated initiative and with appropriate quality control measures to ensure that patients receive appropriate advice and signposting to local NHS services”.
