Enalapril tablets
Almus Pharmaceuticals has added enalapril maleate tablets to its range; net price, 2.5mg 28 £2.46, 5mg 28 £3.59, 10mg 28 £4.96, 20mg 28 £6.13. The packs are only available from OTC Direct and UniChem.

SPC changes

Wyeth HRT products
The summary of product characteristics for Premarin, Premique, Premique Cycle, Prempak-C and Premarin vaginal cream have been updated (Wyeth). Continuous combined therapy (Premique) and oestrogen only therapy (Premarin) are now only recommended for postmenopausal use. For treatment of postmenopausal symptoms the lowest effective dose should be used. History of thromboembolic risk factors, hypertension, liver disorders and diabetes are now listed as conditions requiring supervision. Porphyria has been added to the list of contraindications, and the undesirable effects section has been extended. Warnings about cancers and cardiovascular effects have been reworded. See SPC.

Cardura
The summary of product characteristics for Cardura (doxazosin) now clarifies that it may be administered in the morning or evening, and can be used in benign prostatic hyperplasia patients who are either hypertensive or normotensive (Pfizer). Information on postural hypotension and syncope has been added. The undesirable effects section has been expanded and a paragraph on patients with liver impairment has been added. See SPC.

Discontinued products

Sevredol oral solution
All presentations of Sevredol (morphine sulphate) oral solution and Sevredol concentrated oral solution are being discontinued when present stocks are exhausted (Napp Pharmaceuticals). Sevredol tablets remain available.

Akineton tablets
Akineton (biperiden hydrochloride) tablets 2mg have been discontinued (Abbott Laboratories).

Jevity tube feed
Abbott Laboratories has launched Jevity 1.5kcal, a liquid tube feed with fibre and fructo-oligosaccharides providing 1.5kcal energy per ml. It is unflavoured and available in 500ml, 1 litre and 1.5 litre ready-to-hang containers. The product is Advisory Committee on Borderline Substances approved. Net price, 15 x 500ml £66.30, 8 x 1L £65.60, 6 x 1.5L £76.80.
