Workforce census response good, but could be better
The response rate in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's 2003 pharmacy workforce census has reached 65 per cent. But because the census results will be used to inform workforce planning and policy, the practice research division hopes to see a further increase before the responses are analysed.
Census forms were sent out in September. They went to all pharmacists
with registered addresses in Britain, other than those over the state
pension age who indicated that they were not working at the time of the
2002 census. Reminders were recently sent to those who had not responded.
The practice research division thanks pharmacists who have already returned
their forms and hopes that those who have not yet done so will find a
few minutes to complete and post their responses. Forms can be returned
for inclusion in the census until the end of December.
The results from the census will be published early in 2004 and will
include a comparison with the 2002 workforce data.
Pharmacists registered with the Society but with overseas addresses are
being surveyed as part of a separate research project.
