Report examines impact of national policy developments on pharmacists’ future roles
A report published this week by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s policy development unit examines the likely impact of recent national policy developments on the future roles of pharmacists.
The report is the outcome of a consultation on Phase 1 of a project on
the competencies needed by the future pharmacy workforce. The consultation
attracted 72 responses — 45 of them from organisations, 11 from
professional groups and 16 from individuals. Most of the respondents
supported the project and the contribution they believed it would make
to the development of the profession.
Eileen Neilson, head of policy development at the Society, said that
the comments received in the consultation responses would be fed into
further development of the new competency framework. A new steering group
would integrate the project with the Society’s strategic development
of pharmacy education and training. The new competency framework would
undergo initial “reality testing” with 150 pharmacists, the
results of which would be published.
All the consultation respondents will be sent a copy of the report. Others
can ontain copies of the summary or full report by contacting Karen Turnham
at the Society’s headquarters (tel 020 7572 2218; e-mail kturnham@rpsgb.org.uk).
The report will also be available shortly on the Society’s website
(www.rpsgb.org.uk). |
