Epilepsy drug for MS

The antiepileptic drug levetiracetam (Keppra) may prove to be an effective treatment for controlling the symptoms of spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis, say American researchers.

They reviewed the medical records of 11 patients treated with levetiracetam and found that phasic spasticity, but not tonic spasticity, decreased. Three patients incidentally reported improvements in neuropathic pain (Archives of Neurology 2003;60:1772).
