Community pharmacies to get free Medicines Compendium

Community pharmacies will be able to apply for a free copy of the 2004 Medicines Compendium for the first time when it is published at the end of January.

The compendium contains all the summaries of product characteristics for branded prescription and non-prescription medicines in the UK. Over 60 per cent of entries for its 2,500 listings have changed since the 2003 edition. Updates will be listed on its website.

Copies of the compendium will be sent to medicines information officers at NHS trusts. Community pharmacies, NHS hospital pharmacies and GP surgeries can request a single copy each (e-mail compendium@omsg. co.uk, fax 0870 010 2181).

Additional copies are available at £35 each, including packing and postage, and a CD-ROM version costs £229.12 (tel 01420 525610, e-mail medicinescompendium@mmcltd.com).
