Pharmacy assistants

Pharmacy support staff

Clarification, please

From Mr N. J. W. Barsby, MRPharmS

Who will sign the “grandparent clause” in a pharmacy that does not have a permanent pharmacist manager?

Norman Barsby
Felixstowe, Suffolk

SUE KILBY, head of practice, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, replies:

The Society recognises that some pharmacies may not have a permanent pharmacist manager (for example, those pharmacies run using regular locums). Following discussions between Society staff and interested stakeholders it has been agreed that in this type of scenario it would be the responsibility of the individual superintendent pharmacist/ pharmacist-in-charge to determine who would be the most appropriately placed pharmacist to complete the declaration form in line with the Society’s requirements. The general consensus is that this should not prove an insurmountable obstacle.
