British clinical pharmacy teachers head for Indonesia
Four hospital pharmacists have flown to Indonesia this week to take part in a clinical pharmacy teaching course.
The week-long intensive course, held at the University of Surabaya, Java,
will be the sixth and final one to be held under an arrangement originally
set up by the late Mohammed Aslam of Nottingham University and Chik Kaw
Tan of University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
Under the arrangement, sponsored by the British Council, there have been
annual courses in Surabaya attended by clinical pharmacists and academics,
a textbook on clinical pharmacy with contributions from British and Indonesian
authors has been published in Indonesian, a master’s degree programme
has been started, national and regional conferences have been held to
promote pharmacy; and a purpose-built medicines information centre has
been opened.
The programme will conclude with a national conference for pharmacists,
doctors and government officials on the contribution of pharmacy to patient
safety later this year.
This year’s British pharmacy tutors are Rachel Kenwood, of Lincoln
Hospitals and Nottingham University, Sue Banfield, Manchester, Rebecca
Walters, Airedale, and David Scott, Oxford. |
