The SocietyIs the Society abandoning industrial pharmacy? From Mr M. J. H. How, MRPharmS As an industrial pharmacist who is on the point of losing the only thing which caters for my specific interests that I have ever received from my Society — The Industrial Pharmacist — I am a little sensitive to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society appearing to abandon my branch of essential pharmaceutical work. At the same time I see that the Society is undertaking a career motivation study. I know from my work with both the British Pharmaceutical Students Association and the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation that many pharmacy students are eager to consider a career in industry. We could do with some help from the Society to encourage companies to offer placements to these extremely well motivated and bright young pharmacists-to-be. Such activity could also help with the apparent ongoing problem of pharmacists being less than well disposed to their career choice. I do not know of any pharmacist who has chosen a career in industry who regrets that choice. Mike How
