Byelaw change will allow more members to nominate themselves for fellowship
The Society's Council, at the February Council meeting, agreed to seek a Byelaw amendment to allow more members of the Society to nominate themselves for fellowship.
The amendment would allow implementation of a scheme approved at the
Council’s last meeting (PJ, 13 December, p822). Self-nomination
is currently open only to those who wish to be designated as fellows
for an outstanding original contribution to the advancement of pharmaceutical
knowledge. The intention is that it should also be available to those
seeking recognition for their original contributions to the advancement
of practice.
The Panel of Fellows would retain its power to designate nominated members
as fellows for outstanding original contributions to the advancement
of pharmaceutical knowledge or for distinction in the science, practice,
profession or history of pharmacy.
The Council has yet to determine the fee payable by those who seek fellowship
by self-nomination. At the December 2003 meeting, it was agreed that
the size of the fee would be such as to cover the cost of the independent
assessment procedure that will precede an assessment by the Panel of
Fellows.
