Society summary

February Council meeting: new format for reports

Our reports this week of the meeting of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Council on 3 and 4 February follow a new format. Instead of publishing one long report, we have produced separate news items about various matters raised at the meeting. We have not included any abstracts of Council debate, but the reports will be supplemented in due course by an extended transcript of the meeting’s open sessions published on the Society’s website.

Attendance Those present at the meeting were the President (Dr Gill Hawksworth), the Vice-President (Alison Ewing), the Treasurer (Linda Stone), Gerald Alexander, Martin Astbury, Andrew Burr, Sultan Dajani, Marshall Davies, Wally Dove, Digby Emson, Dr Phillida Entwistle, Christine Glover, Sally Greensmith, Patricia Hoare, Helen Howe, Clive Jackson, Professor Bob Michell, Hemant Patel, Douglas Simpson, Ashwin Tanna, Noel Wicks, Nicholas Wood and the Secretary and Registrar (Ann Lewis). Also present were the chairman of the Society’s Scottish Executive (David Thomson) and the chairman of the Welsh Executive (Andrea Robinson).

Apologies Apologies for absence were received from Dr Nicola Gray and Professor Michael Schofield.

Guests Present by invitation were the following representatives of the Society’s branches and regions: Carol Heydon (chairman, South Staffordshire branch); David Thomas (chairman, Thames Valley branch); Rachel Muxworthy (treasurer, West Surrey branch); Allan Wilson (chairman, Ayrshire branch); Brenda Charlton (Isle of Man branch); Ross Groves (secretary, North Western region). Also present were Colin Lea (a member of the Council’s Code of Conduct Panel and vice-president of the Health Professions Council) and Jane Wesson (chairman, Council for the Regulation of Health Care Professionals)
