Society to work on knowledge and skills map for managed sector pharmacy workforce
The Society is about to start work on establishing a knowledge, attitudes and skills map for the pharmacy workforce in the managed sector.
At the February
Council meeting, Council members heard that the Society
had been approached by the people developing the knowledge and skills
framework for the NHS. They had asked the Society to work with the Guild
of Healthcare Pharmacists on filling the gaps around use of medicines
in the framework. There would a workshop to develop the competencies
missing from the framework. The matter was being looked at both from
the hospital pharmacy angle and also from primary care, particularly
the pharmaceutical advisers’ angle.
The Council also approved a position statement on the knowledge and skills
framework and the Agenda for Change review of grading and pay negotiations.
The statement had been drawn up after a strategy day in November at which
the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists had given a presentation. The statement
was intended to set out the current position, although it was acknowledged
that there had been considerable movement since the presentation from
the guild and that some updating was necessary.
