No change on PSNC levy

A motion to change the levy that contractors pay the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee from one based on prescription volume to a one-fee-for-all approach was lost at the local pharmaceutical committee representatives’ conference in London this week.

Proposing the motion, Thomas Bisset of Barnsley LPC, said that it would be simpler for contractors to pay the same amount. “The PSNC does not represent contractors according to the number of prescriptions they dispense,” he said. Pointing out that the new pharmacy contract is based on quality not volume, he recommended a one contract, one vote, one levy approach to PSNC levies.

Opposing, Roger King of Dorset LPC, said that a standard levy would be unfair to small contractors since they would have to pay the same as large contractors.
