LPC conference news in brief

Patient choice
A motion supporting patients’ rights to choose their pharmacy was carried. It followed concerns that surgery staff direct patients to particular pharmacies.

Staff training needed
NHS-funded training for pharmacy staff needs to be developed to improve advice given on over-the-counter medicines. So said a carried motion proposed in light of the recent Which? report on pharmacies.

Questions invited
The PSNC plans to invite questions in advance as well as formal motions for discussion at next year’s LPC conference.

Conflict of interest
A motion to prevent LPC officers from holding paid positions with primary care trusts was lost. LPC representatives felt that more could be gained than could be lost through conflicts of interest.
