Statins and grapefruit

Patients treated with simvastatin and other statins metabolised by the isoenzyme CYP3A4 should be advised to avoid drinking grapefruit juice, say German researchers. They report a case of a woman with statin-associated muscle weakness triggered by grapefruit juice (Neurology 2004;62:670).
