Date set for summary judgment hearing

The application for summary judgment of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Charter petition claim will not be heard in the High Court before mid-May, despite efforts by the Society to have the matter resolved as early as possible.

The claim has been listed for hearing in the Royal Courts of Justice, London, on Tuesday 18 May, continuing on the following day if necessary.

The defendants in the action brought by the Save Our Society group are the 16 members of Council who voted in support of petitioning for a new Royal Charter (PJ, 13 December 2003, p801) plus the Society itself.

The hearing date was confirmed by the Society’s President, Gill Hawksworth, on 8 March. Speaking on behalf of the defendants, Dr Hawksworth said: “We were aiming for the application to be heard before Easter, in order to resolve the matter as quickly as possible, in the interests of the profession and the public. Unfortunately it has not been possible to reach agreement with the claimants’ legal team on an earlier date.”
