GSK wants Zovirax to be general sale list medicine

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare has asked to be allowed to sell Zovirax cold sore cream through corner shops and convenience stores. The company has asked the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to reclassify the product as a general sale list medicine on the grounds that there is little risk to patient safety, and pharmacy opening hours are too restrictive.

The Committee on Safety of Medicines has approved the change, subject to changes to the patient information leaflet.
