Pharmacists Defence Association wins compensation and launches locum support

The recently formed Pharmacists’ Defence Association is showing early results in improving the lot of pharmacy employees. Since its formation in September 2003, the PDA has won £30,000 overall, in compensation for pharmacists in claims against their employers.

John Murphy, general manager of the PDA, said: “As a result, employers are having to radically rethink their pharmacy human resources policies and bring them in line with current regulations.”

Help with resolving disputes between pharmacy employers and locum pharmacists is the latest membership benefit to be introduced for locum members of the Pharmacists’ Defence Association.

Mark Koziol, director of the PDA, said: “It can be truly daunting for an individual locum to take up a dispute with a pharmacy employer because many employers have the significant back-up of a head office and most are members of a different defence association.”
