Checking contents of manufacturers' packs

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society recently had cause to investigate a complaint arising from the dispensing of an apparently complete manufacturer’s pack that contained tablets different from those described on the outer packaging. Pharmacists are therefore advised to modify their checking procedures to incorporate a check of the contents of unsealed manufacturers’ packs to ensure that they are the same as described on the outer packaging. Incorporating checks of this nature should help to minimise the risk of similar errors occurring in the future.
