Rat genes mapped

A draft sequence of the genome of the laboratory rat has been published in Nature (2004;428:493). Researchers from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, reveal that the sequence has about 25,000 genes and around 90 per cent of these have matches in the mouse and man.
