SARS vaccine protects mice

An experimental vaccine containing a small segment of the SARS coronavirus DNA is able to prevent the virus from replicating in laboratory mice, new data reveal. Researchers from the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, in Bethesda, Maryland, plan to test the vaccine’s safety and potential to induce similar immune responses in humans (Nature 2004;428:561).
